We land in Northeast Ohio to profile our latest Host of the Month, Stephany “Stevie” Millick.
Here are her answers to my dumb questions:
What’s your favorite Last Call show to host? Feud? Tunes? Trivia?
My favorite show to host is regular ‘ole trivia, but in fairness that is also all I have ever done. So, I guess I am biased.
What question types / categories do you love / always get right?
I always really like asking questions about word origins because I am a word snob and it makes me feel good to know the answer to something.
What gaps are in your trivia knowledge / questions you suck at?
I basically suck at all categories and questions – that’s why I stopped playing and started hosting. I figured if I was never going to win bar cash I would find another way to make bank off of trivia.
What’s the best *wrong* answer a team has given you?
I am a Michigan Wolverines fan and I make sure all my teams know it, especially during football season. I asked a question (I don’t remember what the question was) but a team wrote “I don’t know but Ann Arbor was a whore”. They also drew one of the dirtiest stick figure drawings I have ever seen.
What are some of your favorite/funniest/filthiest team names?
It was my first time hosting at a new venue and this team came up and said “Our name is Mean LaQueefa.” I immediately thought about how proud my parents would be to hear me saying this name repeatedly into a microphone to a bar full of strangers.
Do you try to tailor your setlist to the questions? (Not exactly for clues, but even thematically?)
I do not tailor my set lists. I do however have one band that I make sure I play every show and that band is Genesis!
What are some ways a team can get on your bad side? / What do successful teams do well?
The best way for a team to get on my bad side is to be overly confident in their answers to the point where they are yelling at me that I am wrong. I start my shows by reading the rules and I always say “Please do not shout out answers. You are usually wrong and I promise you no matter how smart and witty you think you are I am much much wittier. Save your time and mine.”
I feel like successful teams have members that know their roles. I have teams that have one person that does movies and tv, one that does music, one that does sports, etc. And they seem to work really well together.
What is your favorite power-up in Super Mario Brothers? Fire-flower? Tanooki/Flying Raccoon suit? Star of invincibility?
Look, I am all about Mariokart and everyone knows getting that sweet, sweet golden shroom is the best power up in that game. No contest.
Don’t you hate it when a team folds their answer sheets into something the size of an aspirin with a thousand folds in it, and it takes half a song to unfold it so you can see what their answer is?
I HATE that. I always tell them they are dealing with trivia answers, not frigging bomb codes. No need to be so secretive!
Any favorite / funny stories from hosting? Mispronouncing a key word in a question? Slamming down hecklers?
I would say hands down the best moment for me was when I announced that I was pregnant to my shows. They were all so happy and gave me a standing ovation. One team even brought me flowers the following week. It is funny how I started doing this just for some extra cash and now my teams feel like family.
PS – I just found out I am having a girl! Lucille Jean! She is due in September. Congratulations!
Trivia: I Love Lucy’s second season paralleled Lucy and Ricky’s real life, even timing the birth of “Little Ricky” on January 19, 1953 – the same day the real Lucy went to the hospital to give birth to her real life son. What word was *never* used to describe her condition?
