A Well-Deserved Trivia Night Spotlight

For our next BOTM, we are going West to Portland, Oregon.

Actually, about 15 minutes further West to Malone’s Ale House in Beaverton, OR, but why quibble over 11.4 miles?

The very first thing you’ll notice when you walk into Malone’s Ale House is the pool tables.  They tend to be pretty popular, and there may be a long wait on Mondays, when it’s free.  (That’s also Trivia night – stop in and say hi to Robin!)

Take another step inside and you’ll see the plethora of televisions, most of which are tuned to local sports teams, and all important national games.  (Go Ducks!)

Unfortunately, the games of beer-iffically named local Class A minor league baseball team, the Hillsboro Hops, are not televised.  You can catch those on local radio AM 620.

The next thing you’ll see is the smiles – on the faces of bar staff and the customers.  Walk up to the bar, and you’ll see 20 amazing beers on tap, and a full menu.

You’ll also notice the bowls of peanuts at each table.  They are complementary, and you are encouraged to toss the shells on the floor as you eat.  You’ll want to take a second and ask your server why they do this.  (And don’t worry – they are swept up daily!)

In addition to Trivia Mondays, Malone’s offers karaoke 4 nights a week, a great outdoor porch (heated in the winter), and occasional live music and comedy.  (Check their facebook page for more details.)

One patron describes Malone’s as “A loud a bar where you let yourself go … you are expected to drink, relax, let your troubles go.”

Let your troubles go, and stop in to Malone’s.

Trivia

  • Portland was almost named “West Boston.”
  • The most famous bar in Boston is Cheers (run by Sam Malone, no relation).
  • Q: What fictitious pub was the rival of the Cheers bar, winning in almost every “Bar Wars” episode?

Send all guesses to: lastcallboozeblog@gmail.com . First 3 correct guesses will be recognized in a future edition!

Last Call Trivia

Last Call Trivia began in the Fall of 2007 when founders Adam and Drew saw a niche for great Trivia Nights in the Cincinnati market. The 10 years that followed bootstrapped their love of Trivia into the seats of hundreds of bars across the country. The best part of our epic journey has been the community we’ve been able to create and that community is a testament to the power of Trivia Nights. We believe that our role in this industry is not a zero-sum game, but rather an infinite game where we seek to help knowledge spread and lives change.
