Only known defense against Dementors.

Makes Boggarts less threatening.

Fixes something that has been broken.

Confundo

Causes confusion in a person or a sentient object.

Avada Kedavra

Kills instantly (one of the three Unforgivable Curses).

Crucio

Causes agonizing pain (one of the three Unforgivable Curses).

Imperio

Controls others’ actions (one of the three Unforgivable Curses).

Episkey

Heals minor injuries.

Stupefy

Knocks out opponent.

Impedimenta

Slows down and obstructs attackers.

Petrificus Totalus

Causes full-body paralysis.

Unbreakable Vow

Binds a wizard to a promise, who will die if they break it.

Incendio

Starts a fire.

Alohomora

Opens locks.

Morsmordre

Conjures the Dark Mark.

Priori Incantatem

Reveals the last spell cast by another wizard’s wand.

Legilimens

Lets the caster see into the mind of another person.

Levicorpus

Causes a person to hang upside-down in midair as if by the ankle.

Doxys

A flying household pest with a poisonous bite.

Thestrals

Skeletal, winged horses that can only be seen by those who have witnessed death.

House Elves

Loyal magical creatures bound to their owners as servants for life.

Red Caps

Bloodthirsty creatures that live wherever blood has been spilt.

Hippogriffs

Half horse, half eagle creatures, immensely proud and extremely dangerous.

Blast-Ended Skrewts

A cross between a Fire Crab and a Manticore.

Kelpies

Shape-shifting water demon.

Nifflers

Long-snouted, burrowing creatures native to Britain with a penchant for anything shiny.

Hinkypunk

One-legged creature with the appearance of wispy blue, grey or white smoke that lures travelers off of their paths at night, into treacherous bogs or wetlands under the guise of a helpful light.

Manticore

Has the head of a human, body of a lion, and tail of a scorpion that will kill anyone instantly. Its skin repels all known charms and it has been known to be capable of human speech and will sing softly as it eats its prey.

Grindylow

Pale green water demon that acts with aggression towards muggles and wizards, but has been known to be domesticated by Merpeople.

Phoenixes

Faithful magical birds which burst into flame when when their bodies begin to fail, to be reborn from the ashes and have magical tears with healing properties.

Boggarts

Lurk in cupboards and when confronted, take the form of your worst fears.

Basilisks

Giant serpents which can instantly kill anyone who looks into their eyes.

Goblins

Skilled metalworkers who run Gringotts Wizarding Bank.

Pixies

Winged blue mischief-makers who delight in playing tricks.

Acromantula

Highly dangerous giant spiders.

Unicorns

Beautiful, pure-white horned horses with highly magical properties. It is taboo to harm one.

Dementors

The guards of Azkaban, they feed on human happiness and can extract souls with their Dementor’s Kiss.

Magical Objects

Bezoars

A shrivelled kidney-like stone that can be used to save a witch or wizard from poison.

Deluminator

Also known as the Put-Outer, this mysterious object removes light from an area and restores it with a click.

Invisibility Cloak

One of the three Deathly Hallows, a cloak that once worn can make the user invisible.

Portkey

An inanimate object enchanted to transport anyone who touches it to a specific destination.

The Mirror of Erised

A special mirror which reflects the deepest desires of those who look at it.

Marauder's Map

Magic parchment that reveals the current location of anyone on Hogwarts grounds.

The Philosopher’s Stone

Legendary stone that turns metal into gold and produces a liquid ensuring immortality for those who drink it.

The Sorting Hat

Enchanted hat that once belonged to Godric Gryffindor and sorts students into Hogwarts houses.

Pensieve

A basin used to store and review memories.

Howler

A red envelope containing a shrieking, angry message.

Golden Snitch

A winged Quidditch ball which, when caught by the Seeker, gains the team 150 points.

Gillyweed

A nifty water plant that allows the person who eats it to breathe underwater.

Polyjuice Potion

A potion that can give the drinker the appearance of another person.

Felix Felicis

A rare and hard-to-make potion that promises the drinker good luck.

Remembrall

An enchanted ball that glows red if you’ve forgotten something.

Horcrux

Objects used to conceal parts of a wizards soul and tether them to life. They can only be created after committing murder.

Time-Turner

A magical device that can transport the user back in time.

Hogwarts Headmaster, founder of the Order of the Phoenix, with a fondness for sherbet lemons and knitting patterns.

Gilderoy Lockhart

Author, professor and five-time winner of Witch Weekly’s Most Charming Smile Award. Known to be vain and steal credit for the work of others.

Minerva McGonagall

The strict but fair Head of Gryffindor house and Transfiguration teacher and Headmaster following Dumbledore and Snape’s deaths.

Severus Snape

Hogwarts Potions master, Head of Slytherin house and former Death Eater.

Sybill Trelawney

Divination professor at Hogwarts who has prophesied accurately at least twice.

Pomona Sprout

Herbology Professor and expert in dangerous plants. Head of Hufflepuff house.

Quirnus Quirrell

Stuttering, nervous (although an act) Defence Against the Dark Arts professor who was a host body for Voldemort’s partial soul.

Filius Flitwick

Hogwarts Charms professor and Head of Ravenclaw house.

Remus Lupin

A member of the Order of the Phoenix, Hogwarts teacher, Tonks’ husband – and a werewolf.

Alastor Moody

Famously paranoid Auror and one-time leader of the Order of the Phoenix.

Kingsley Shacklebolt

Auror, member of the Order of the Phoenix and eventually, Minister for Magic.

Nymphadora Tonks

A Metamorphmagus and Auror with distinctive hair. Member of the Order of the Phoenix.

Sirius Black

Harry’s Animagus godfather who escaped from Azkaban as a wrongly accused criminal.

Gellert Grindelwald

A student at Durmstrang Institute, Grindelwald was expelled for twisted, dark experiments and near-fatal attacks on students. Made a pact with Albus Dumbledore to find the Deathly Hollows, which led to a falling out and the death of Dumbledore’s sister, Ariana.

Dolores Umbridge

A half-blood witch who is a sinister Ministry bureaucrat and one-time, extremely disliked Hogwarts teacher. Loves the color pink and kittens.

Tom Riddle

Also known as Voldemort. Half-blood wizard who took an evil life path and is prejudiced towards muggles and muggle-borns.

Lucius Malfoy

Wealthy and pretentious member of the Wizarding community. Father of Draco Malfoy and active Death Eater.

Barty Crouch Jr.

Son of Barty Crouch, active Death Eater, and famously known for the torture and murder of Neville Longbottom’s parents.
