For our next BOTM, we are going West to Portland, Oregon.
The very first thing you’ll notice when you walk into Malone’s Ale House is the pool tables. They tend to be pretty popular, and there may be a long wait on Mondays, when it’s free. (That’s also Trivia night – stop in and say hi to Robin!)
The next thing you’ll see is the smiles – on the faces of bar staff and the customers. Walk up to the bar, and you’ll see 20 amazing beers on tap, and a full menu.
You’ll also notice the bowls of peanuts at each table. They are complementary, and you are encouraged to toss the shells on the floor as you eat. You’ll want to take a second and ask your server why they do this. (And don’t worry – they are swept up daily!)
In addition to Trivia Mondays, Malone’s offers karaoke 4 nights a week, a great outdoor porch (heated in the winter), and occasional live music and comedy. (Check their facebook page for more details.)
One patron describes Malone’s as “A loud a bar where you let yourself go … you are expected to drink, relax, let your troubles go.”
Let your troubles go, and stop in to Malone’s.
- Portland was almost named “West Boston.”
- The most famous bar in Boston is Cheers (run by Sam Malone, no relation).
- Q: What fictitious pub was the rival of the Cheers bar, winning in almost every “Bar Wars” episode?
